The Great Restore

When I was young, we bought a few old sports cars. One could not be started.  But we restored these old vehicles until they were as good – no better than new. Recently, I have noticed I am becoming like an old car. In some ways I am very comfortable and mellow.  But the mileage is starting to take its toll!  I am looking for the great restoration. To learn more, listen to 1 Peter 5:10-11.

Be Alert
When I grew up, you could always tell who the good guys were in a movie. But years passed, I watched a movie about crime. The good guys were the bad guys. The bad guys were the good guys. No, they were all bad, just some better bad guys. The movie was completely confusing. But as Christian’s we are not supposed to be confused.  To learn more, listen to today’s message based on 1 Peter 5:8-9.,

Cast all You Anxiety
When you are anxious, you need to spill your thoughts.  You begin by telling a few of your problems. Perhaps they yawn or pretend to listen.  They might say, “later.” You ask who cares? The Lord cares! To learn more, listen to today’s devotion based on 1 Peter 5:7.

Humility Toward One Another
When I woke up this morning I prayed.  Then I read the Bible.  After this I started to plan Bible Studies. Then I brushed my teeth and shaved. Finally, I finished getting my shoes on so I could take a walk and pray again and then work on my sermon.  But did I forget to clothe myself completely? To learn more, listen to today’s devotion based on 1 Peter 5:5-6.

The Committed Suffering
The other day I was speaking to a man who falls apart every time he encounters the smallest trial.  If he has car trouble, he thinks there is no God. If he has a bad day at work, he gives up church for the week. He is done! To learn more, listen to today’s devotion based on 1 Peter 4:19.

Rejoice in Your Sufferings

Probably twenty years ago, an elderly woman in our church was ill and in the hospital. I went to the hospital to encourage her. She told me that the doctors had just told her that she only had a short time to live. But she was not sad, her face was filled with joy. Gifts for the Praise of God
We are not Islands unto ourselves. Rather, you are free, but born of God to help others. In helping others, we serve God and grow as individuals.  To help us, God gave each of us gifts so that we might help others, which in turn helps us.  So, it is time to give God Praise. Today’s thought is based on 1 Peter 4:10-11.

Are you Ready?
I met a man in the park who was so angry with God. He was ready to tell God off!  He had been hurt by a tragic event and vowed to never speak to God again.  Rather than back off I asked him, “Isn’t it true that you are really mad at yourself? Why don’t we talk to God right now? “  To learn more, listen to today’s Devotion based on 1 Peter 3:13-15.

The Eyes of the Lord
From time to time an unbeliever will ask me why God does not answer their prayers. I recently bumped into a man who had no job, and I believe was temporarily kicked out of his family home because he was getting high. When he heard I was a pastor, he exclaimed, “I do not believe in God. I don’t believe there is a God.” He said, “God doesn’t listen to me.” I replied, “I thought you said there is no God.”  To learn more listen to today’s Devotion based on 1 Peter 3: 10-12.

Bless and Be Blessed
When I was young a friend woke up to see his house and car were egged.  Even though there was no proof, he absolutely knew who the perpetrator was.  The guy he insulted with many words a few days before.  My friend insulted this classmate because his classmate had insulted him. I remember asking him, so what did you do.  Jesus had a different way of handling insults. He did not retaliate!  When someone insults you, what do you want to do?  To learn more, listen to today’s Devotion based on 1 Peter 3:8-9

Being like Christ in the Midst of Insults

A little boy once came into church with a shining black eye. I asked him, “What happened?” He said, “Someone at school gave me lip. I am not taking that from everyone.” I said, “Looks like you lost.”  A few weeks later he came back with another black eye.  To learn more, listen to today’s Devotion based on 1 Peter 2:21-23.

The Freed Servant!

I have a friend who insists that you follow their “unique rules” while visiting them. But when they visit someone else’s home, they pay no attention to their host’s customs!   Respect is a two-way street. To be respected you need to respect and be willing to serve. Live Such Good Lives
In Acts 16 Paul and Silas were put in prison for healing a woman who was possessed. They were then beaten and thrown into prison. Amazingly at midnight they were praying, singing songs of praise and evidently using the event as opportunity to teach about Jesus.  Their lives were so convincing that Paul and Silas were converting others even in jail.  To learn more, listen to today’s Devotion based on 1 Peter 2:11-12

Stumbling on the Rock
I used to go to a Christian Camp in the woods.  To get to the swimming lake, you had to go down about 200 feet. You could take a paved road, but it was a 15-minute walk. Or you could go up and down a steep hill in just a few minutes.  But hiker beware! You had to pay attention, or you would trip on a rock! To Learn more, listen to today’s thought based on 1 Peter 2:7-8
